Dear Mark Cuban,
I love your over-the-top antics and basic jackassery, and not only do I respect you because you’re a billionaire who likes to blow his money, but you also successfully run a winning NBA team (except for this year). Heck, my favorite NBA player is The Player Formerly Known as Ron Artest because he just doesn’t care.
But to even joke about considering drafting Brittney Griner is just stupid and would just make both of you a sideshow.
Another of my favorite human beings alive, Sir Charles Barkley, was on The Dan Patrick Show and agreed with UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma who called the idea a “sham” and “absolutely ludicrous.”
“If [Cuban] brought her in, yeah, they’d sell some tickets to the summer league, which I don’t understand what type of losers would go to the summer league, anyway,” said Barkley. “I agree with Geno, 100 percent. A girl can’t play against men. Listen, it’s just a publicity [stunt]. Mark’s one of my great friends, but a woman can’t play against a man.”
Sure she is something the women’s game has never seen and is really a breath of fresh air for a league filled with great lay ups and decent 3-point shooting. And yeah, she is as tall as LeBron James, but try to imagine her even attempting to get a shot off against The King who has been named to the NBA All-Defensive First-Team four times.
At 207 pounds, she just doesn’t have the frame or muscle to handle the physical play of the NBA. While the league may not be as physical as it was in the days of Pippen, Malone, and Barkley, it is still very physical and contact oriented.
Patrick tried to make an argument with Barkley of the possibility that a smaller woman, like an outside shooting guard, could compete in the NBA, but Chuck was having none of that.
“Dan, Dan, Dan, stop it. A woman can’t play against a man. Come on, man. A little woman, a big woman, come on. A woman can’t play in the NBA,” said Barkley.
So please, Mark Cuban, I’m all about you investing and spending your billions of dollars on ridiculous things (I’d do the same thing), but using it to bring a woman to the NBA would just tarnish your flawless reputation.
P.S. This is not an attack on women or an attempt to belittle them and say they are inferior to men, but just a matter of common sense. The best male athletes are just naturally faster, stronger, and more gifted than the best female athletes.
