This is no doubt the longest title I have ever given an article.  But the title exactly reflects the instant change in attitude of nearly every Buckeye fan in, well…the world.  I mean, it’s amazing how certain things can change your opinion of a guy.

Some say that time heals all wounds, but I’m pretty sure that six years after the fact, a 41-14 crushing at the hands of Urban Meyer’s Florida Gators is a wound that is indeed quite sore.  But still, it’s amazing how a scarlet shirt looks way better on a guy than a blue one does.

Six years ago, I hated Urban Meyer’s guts.  It’s that simple.  To hear his name on ESPN would noticeably raise my blood pressure a point that most doctors deem to be unsafe.  This was strictly the style of hate that exists in the hearts of sports fans.  I don’t know the man personally at all.  But he made my Buckeyes look like a flag football team on national television!  Do you expect me to just leave it pass?

My how things have changed.  Now it’s time for the Buckeyes to start beating teams like a red-headed stepchild for the whole world to see!  Forgive my insensitivity here, but it’s just better to be the one dishing out the beatings.  Let’s face facts; everybody hates the Yankees because of jealousy.  We all wish our teams had that deep of a checkbook.  In this case, I wished my team was the one with 41 points at the end of the game.

At this point, I will unashamedly admit that I am a total Urban Meyer sellout!  I love this man’s brutally honest press conferences, his demand for perfection (rivaled only by Herman Boone for example…for you kids scoring at home, that’s from Remember the Titans), and I love the enthusiasm that he has for my alma mater, THE Ohio State University.

This guy is a breath of fresh air compared to the boring press conferences that Jim Tressel used to grace us with.  Let’s put it this way…if Tress were a PGA event, Urban would be a monster truck rally!

Now on to the confidence I have in this guy.  When Tressel was our coach, I never really felt like we had a shot in any big game we played…and our record against teams like USC, Texas, Florida, LSU, etc. etc. etc. during his tenure certainly explains why I felt that way.  Not one time did I ever feel like we were going to charge into a game and dominate the other team in every aspect of the game.  However, with Urban at the helm…I not only think it will happen, I expect it…and I’m furious if it doesn’t happen!

Meyer took an admittedly bad team and coached them to an undefeated season last year.  Meyer worked that team like dogs all season and he’s working this year’s team even harder.  Meyer is recruiting like a mad man as well.  I can’t wait to see what he does with this new recruiting class this summer.  When is the last time we even gave a crap about recruiting with Tressel?  Seriously, as Buckeye fans, how did we ever live without Meyer?

As a Buckeye fan, I’m expecting big things out of my team this year.  The comforting thing is that I know Urban is demanding even bigger things out of this team.  I’m just waiting for that moment when we find out who our opponent will be for the national title game this year.  That’s right, it’s not even time for training camp and I’m already saying the title game is between us and whoever else works hard enough to get there!  Whoever they are, they had better be ready…because Ohio State football is different now!
