Apparently, there are still a few ignorant morons left in this country. Today, through the wonderful world of Twitter, I found out that some racist douche bags have vandalized the statue of Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese that stands outside of the Brooklyn Cyclones stadium. Apparently they drew swastikas and wrote racial slurs on the statue. Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. You can read the article HERE.
Now, I’m not about to sit here and pretend that I’ve never told a black joke in my life or that I’ve never been prejudice at one time or another. But the guys that are responsible for this represent ignorance and hate on a level that is just unimaginable to me.
Growing up in the Midwest, I would hear things from older people from time to time. Things that wouldn’t be uttered in public these days…nor should they really be said in private. When I hear these things being said, I don’t laugh because it’s funny, but because I can’t believe that anybody can still legitimately feel this way while living in today’s culture.
I mean really, how big of a narrow-minded racist do you have to be to do something like this? How warped of an upbringing did you have in order for you to think that this is okay? I’m all about free speech, even if I completely disagree with what you’re saying, but this sort of thing doesn’t deserve that freedom.
Think about it, how many African-American soldiers gave their life so that these moronic punks can live in a free country today? The fact that these people can’t even appreciate that fact sickens me.
So to whomever it was that snuck up on that statue at Coney Island last night, thanks a lot for making white people look like a bunch of racist hillbillies! You people need to wake up. Welcome to the ‘Our Sports Report’ Hall of Shame.
