Three more losses in the past week for the beaten up and bruised Blue Jackets has officially brought their losing skid to five. The losses of 5-2, 4-1 and 3-2 to the Senators, Maple Leafs and Devils, respectively, has hurt. A lot.
We must remember, however, that this is a team with pretty much all of Ryan Johansen’s offensive support on the injury report, as well as star net-minder Sergei Bobrovsky.
The good news injury wise is that Goalie Bob (broken finger) and James Wisniewski (another broken finger...maybe the team should invest in better gloves?) should be back within the next week and a half. Boone Jenner is practicing again and will play tomorrow against the Hurricanes. Thank. The. Hockey. Gods.
This stretch is going to test the Jacket’s resolve and I think that this is a good thing. You do not win a Stanley Cup without going through some rough patches. This also has given some young guys a taste of NHL action. The jump between the AHL and NHL is huge. Now they know what they have to do to really compete at the top level and hopefully it pushes them to get even better.
Other CBJ News & Notes
● Brandon Dubinsky is still out, but getting closer to a return (probably 2-3 weeks by my reckoning). He is desperately needed.
● The next two games are against a struggling Carolina Hurricanes team (they are on a two game win streak, but they really are not that good). Maybe this is just what the doctor ordered to get the Jackets back on track.
● There are a couple of days between some games this week. This should give the team time to work out some of the kinks and get set to end the skid.
