What if I told you that a ticket existed that could get you into any sporting event of your choosing? Being an avid sports fan, I would do almost anything to get my hands on such a rare prize, and luckily for fans of the Milwaukee Brewers, that dream has become a reality.
Back in October 2014, the Milwaukee Brewers released a promotion to the public that for $1,000, one of 1,000 "Timeless Tickets" could be purchased and guarantee you a seat at any future Brewers game for the remaining existence of the organization, including Opening Day and Game Seven of the World Series. Since then, Milwaukee has sweetened the deal by including vouchers to nine additional games throughout the regular season, excluding Opening Day and postseason play.
As you see above, the ticket has a specific identification number and comes with a certificate of authenticity, a display base and weighs in at one pound. The "Timeless Ticket" will also allow you to buy up to three additional tickets to the game that the ticket is cashed in for, making this package pretty special.
I personally think that the Brewers have knocked it out of the park with this offer and it also makes you wonder, what if your team offered the same deal? Would you go to Opening Day or the World Series? We don't even have to keep the focus on baseball. If your favorite professional sports franchise or college sports team offered a ticket for any future event, would you buy it? Better yet, is there a moment or game from your team's history that you would pay the $1,000 to go back in time to see? Speaking as a 24 year-old who is fairly smart with his money, I would still do it in a heartbeat.
While I am a fan of many sports, baseball will always be my favorite. Due to that special place in my heart, there is one game in particular that I would go back in time to watch my Cleveland Indians play in, and it has nothing to do with Opening Day or the World Series.
Back on June 4th, 1974, the Cleveland Indians were in the midst of a feud with the Texas Rangers and they promoted “10-Cent Beer Night” so that they could fill Cleveland Stadium with fans in support of the Tribe. Over 25,000 fans showed up to the game, so the promotion obviously worked, but as I wrote about this infamous day back on it’s 40th Anniversary, things got out of hand in a hurry.
Even though I am not one to enjoy having hotdogs thrown at me or to be bludgeoned with a baseball bat or stadium seat, how awesome would it be to experience that? I don’t even drink beer and I still want to go! Now, I understand that the Indians don’t look at “10-Cent Beer Night” as their shining moment in history, but it was still a success and I would love to go back and be there! Plus, I think Billy Martin and I would’ve had one hell of a go-around with a ball bat and a beer bottle.
So there it is ladies and gentlemen, I have figuratively cashed in my non-existent “Timeless Ticket” to see the city of Cleveland drink too much and fight the Texas Rangers. You may agree with me and you may not, so what say you? If you had a ticket for any future game or game in history of your choosing, what would it be?
