Matthew Ruskan and I were texting back and forth the other day about our beloved Browns. As it does with most fans of the Factory of Sadness, the conversation quickly turned to how unbelievably frustrating it can be to be a fan of this team.
Ever since this team came back into existence, there has been a fairly clear and simple path that the Browns could follow to develop a consistent winner, but they just seem determined to constantly step off that path. Straying from the path of righteousness causes the Cleveland faithful much pain and anxiety, hence the birth of this column. We are not sure how regular of a column this will be, but we are fairly certain that the Browns will provide us with plenty of content.
That said, here we go…
Matt Shock – The Cleveland Browns piss me off because they keep wasting time on overrated and stupid players like Josh Gordon.
For those of you that don’t know, Josh Gordon failed a drug test…again. So yeah, that’s three failed piss tests for a guy who has seemingly spent more time as a suspended player than an active one. But at least it wasn’t for weed this time, right?
Gordon may have been subject to second-hand smoke in his past tests, but this most recent failed test was caused by alcohol. No second hand booze there, only you can drink the booze. What’s he going to say this time? That somebody spiked his drink?
Sure, it may be stupid that you can’t drink once you’ve failed two drug tests in the NFL. But guess what, those are the rules! You knew you couldn’t drink and you went ahead and did it anyways! You are a complete dope, Josh Gordon, and you have nobody to blame but yourself for whatever consequences are coming your way.
It’s time for the Cleveland Browns to finally cut ties with this clown. Yes, he could be a great receiver, but he clearly has other priorities in life. You’re already paying a ton of money to one player already who doesn’t care about your team (Johnny Manziel), so why waste money on another one? Enough is enough! Either you want to field a winning team or you don’t. But one thing is for sure: you’re never going to field a consistently winning team until you rid your locker room of worthless pieces of crap like Josh Gordon. Period.
Matthew Ruskan - Dear Josh Gordon, how much do you care about your career? How much do you care about getting to play the game you love, the one you’ve dreamed of playing every Sunday? You are about to lose that dream.
The Browns piss me off because they do not seem to want to build a winning locker room. Josh Gordon is a cancer and he needs to be cut out before he infects the rest of the body, which it seems he is already doing (Johnny Manziel comes to mind here).
Yes, I know it was not weed this time, but Josh Gordon was arrested for a DUI earlier this season. Per NFL rules, which are totally reasonable because image is a huge part of any professional sports organization, he is then subject to tests for alcohol. He knew that and still put that bottle to his lips, tipped it up, and drank. Clearly whatever the organization has done did not get through to Gordon. The only option, now, is to cut him.
Hey! Jimmy Haslam! Hey! Ray Farmer! Hey! Mike Pettine! You want to make the playoffs? You want to win a Super Bowl? Heck, do you want to have a freaking winning season??? Then you cut Josh Gordon right now, for his sake and yours.
You need a locker room where it is understood that these bans are not jokes, that what you do as an individual off the field reflects on the organization and that this will not be tolerated, no matter your potential skill level.
Until the Browns take this attitude and start building a winning mentality, it does not matter how many quarterbacks we take in the first round. We will not win.
For the sake of the Dawg Pound, cut out the cancer. Give us Brownies a reason to be proud.
