If we have learned anything about the Blue Jackets this season, it is that they do not roll over and give up.
Overall, the Jackets have had a pretty good week. It started with whipping the Flyers 5-2 and then doing everyone in the Metropolitan Division a favor by beating the Penguins 2-1. A 3-1 loss against the Montreal Canadiens was followed by a 4-3 shootout loss to the Rangers where the Jackets came back from three goals down.
You like seeing the resiliency of a team that is well out of the playoff race. It bodes incredibly well for next season.
Coming up this week, the CBJ start off on Tuesday by playing the league bottom feeder Buffalo Sabres. The Jackets need to get a win out of this game for a good boost of confidence. Thursday brings a rematch with the Montreal Canadiens and, for the reasons outlined in the last CBJ Weekly, this will not be an easy game.
The weekend brings another back-to-back, this time home versus the New Jersey Devils on Saturday and then Sunday in Pittsburgh. Jersey is a very winnable game and, as we saw this past weekend, the Jackets can beat Pittsburgh too.
The question is, why? Why were they able to beat one of the better teams in the league this year? The answer is Curtis McElhinney. McElhinney, right now, looks like an NHL starter, including a 29 save outing to beat Pittsburgh. Right now, he is keeping the Jackets in games, and if he keeps doing this, the Jackets might be able to put together a few more wins.
